Navigation Warning - Trollope Reach, Hawkesbury River, Wisemans Ferry

Navigation Hazard - Submerged cable works
Wednesday 14 February to Monday 26 February 2018


Vessel operators are advised that contractors will undertake replacement of submerged cabling on the Hawkesbury River approximately 1.7km downstream of the Wisemans Ferry Vehicular Ferry on Trollope Reach from Wednesday 14 February to Monday 26 February 2018.

The works will include diving operations, work vessels and the use of yellow floating marks with flashing yellow lights indicating the affected crossing area. Works to remove the cables are due to be completed by Monday 26 February 2018.


The cables pose a hazard to navigation especially to vessels anchoring or deploying trailing equipment to the sea bed. The area should be avoided by any vessel engaged in such operations. Vessel operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity. This navigation warning remains in place for the duration of the works.


Roads and Maritime advises:

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016 – Clause 11 (2)(b) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
