Major M2 weekend lane closures in February
Major lane and ramp closures will be in place from 8pm Friday 10 February to 5am Monday 13 February on the Hills M2 Motorway, with motorists advised to plan ahead to avoid delays. “As part of the Hills M2 Upgrade, major work to remove the Beecroft Road bus ramps will require extensive lane closures,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.
“Contra flow will be in place with a reduced speed limit which will delay journeys along the motorway during the work.
“Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and if possible, take an alternative route.”
The work will be carried out from 8pm Friday to 5am Monday from Friday 10 February and will take another two weekends to complete. Further weekend work is due to be scheduled shortly.
In addition to reduced speed limits and contra flow, the westbound Beecroft Road off ramp will be closed for the entire weekend of work.
Several M2 on ramps will be closed between 8am and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday:
- Citybound Pennant Hills Road on ramp
- Citybound Beecroft Road on ramp
- Westbound Herring Road on ramp
- Westbound Lane Cove Road on ramp
These ramp closures will help ensure the traffic flow on the M2 is maintained while contra flow is in place.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journey and consider alternative routes during this work,” the spokesperson said.
“Suggested alternative routes include Epping, Beecroft, Carlingford and Pennant Hills roads. Special clearways will be in place on these routes on Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 7pm during the work.
“Motorists should check signs before parking on any of these roads.
“It’s been a busy time on Sydney roads for upgrades this summer. This is just one of a number of major road projects taking place across Sydney.
“The Sydney Harbour Bridge underwent major resurfacing and waterproofing a few weeks ago and the M5 East freeway resurfacing is continuing throughout February overnight.
“This is all important work to ensure the long-term upkeep of Sydney’s major road network and motorists are thanked for their patience,” the spokesperson said.
The Hills M2 Upgrade includes widening the motorway between Windsor Road, Baulkham Hills, and Lane Cove Road, North Ryde, as well as four new ramps to provide better links between the motorway and growing residential and business areas.
The project is being funded by Hills Motorway Ltd and the M2 concession will be extended by four years, with a one-off toll increase of 7.7 per cent once the work is completed.
