Speed limit change on O'Connell Road between O'Connell and Oberon
Speed limit changes will be implemented on O’Connell Road (Main Road 253) between O’Connell and Oberon on 1 June, weather permitting.
A Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) spokesperson said RMS carried out a review of this section of road as part of the NSW audit of speed zones after concerns from the local community.
“The review assessed a number of factors including road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data,” the spokesperson said.
“As a result of the review the existing 100km/h speed limit will be reduced to 80km/h for 2.9 kilometres north of the Mayfield Road intersection, which is about 14 kilometres northwest of Oberon.
“The speed limit reduction will include a truck and bus speed limit of 40km/h on the northbound lane only.
“The reduced speed limit will improve safety for all road users,” the spokesperson said.
Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits.
