East Gosford - Frederick Street

Roads and Maritime has upgraded the intersection of the Central Coast Highway (York Street) and Frederick Street at East Gosford to improve safety and ease congestion on the highway. The upgrade was completed in June 2016.

Project background

The Central Coast Highway is the major road link between the Gosford and Erina commercial areas and the surrounding coastal suburbs. The upgrade at the intersection of the Central Coast Highway (York Street) and Frederick Street has improved traffic flow, reduced delays, queuing and crashes.

The NSW Government provided $6.5 million for this upgrade.

Key features

The project involved:

  • Road widening to provide a dedicated right turn lane eastbound on the Central Coast Highway (York Street) into Frederick Street (south) to reduce queues during peak periods
  • Extensions of the shared pedestrian/cycle paths and pedestrian facilities on the southern side of the intersection to Albany Street
  • Adjustments to traffic light phasing to allow extra time for pedestrians to cross before traffic proceeds
  • Stormwater drainage improvements and utility relocations.
