Rutherford safety improvements – New England Highway

Roads and Maritime Services has completed an upgrade on the New England Highway between Regiment and Racecourse Roads, Rutherford to improve traffic flow and safety for all road users.

Construction started in March 2014 and was completed in October 2014.

Project background

The New England Highway is part of the National Land Transport Network and is a major freight and commuter route forming part of the Sydney-Brisbane corridor.

More than 20,000 vehicles per day travel along the highway between Regiment and Racecourse Roads, Rutherford.

This upgrade involved widening the New England Highway to provide two lanes in each direction and building pedestrian and cycle paths for safer access to adjacent businesses, residences and sports ground.
