Updates and announcements

From Monday 11 February, Roads and Maritime Services will install a roundabout at the intersection of Illawarra Highway and Sheepwash Road.

Work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm on weekdays.

Lane closures, traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

Some night work will be required during the project. Please check road side electronic message boards and visit Livetraffic.com for up to date information.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

We expect to complete the project by late 2019, weather permitting.

Roads and Maritime thanks the community for their patience during this important work.

Project background

Roads and Maritime Services investigated safety improvements at this intersection due to the high number of crashes.

The intersection is used by about 5000 vehicles each day (about 10 per cent heavy vehicles).
A roundabout was determined to be the best solution at this location as it will improve safety for road users at the intersection while maintaining traffic flow.

The installation of the roundabout involves resurfacing the road and construction of the roundabout, including line marking, signage and street lighting.
