Updates and announcements

Roads and Maritime is conducting a trial second ferry service during peak periods at Lawrence until the end of April 2019.

The trial, which is in response to community concerns about lengthy delays at the Lawrence ferry, will be monitored closely to assess both how the service operates over this period and its benefits.

During the trial, two ferries will be operated at the same time between the hours of 7.30am to 9.30am, and 4pm to 6pm Monday to Friday, including school holidays. This arrangement will also be applied for the Easter long weekend.

To help us measure the success of the trial, the community will be able to take part in an online survey, which will be available on this website from 8 April.

More information is available in the Second ferry trialled at Lawrence media release.

The large capacity ferry is the main crossing ferry and has a safe load limit of 135 tonnes and carries 24 cars each trip. The smaller capacity ferry takes 18 cars with safe load of 90 tonnes and is used when the larger capacity ferry is being serviced.

The ferry operates 24 hours, seven days a week. There is no interruption to service during maintenance periods as two ferries are available at this crossing.
