Wells Crossing to Iluka Road

The Pacific Highway upgrade between Wells Crossing to Iluka Road involves a 70 kilometre dual carriageway upgrade of the Pacific Highway. Planning for this project was funded by the NSW Government.

Project background

The design for this section of highway is a combination of an arterial and a motorway standard highway. Interchanges with an overpass or underpass and access ramps to the upgrade highway would be provided at Glenugie, Tyndale, Maclean, Yamba Road, Harwood and Iluka Road.

Tyndale to Maclean alternative route

The preferred route for the Wells Crossing to Iluka Road project was selected in September 2006. In April 2009, the then Minister for Roads asked Roads and Maritime Services to investigate the feasibility of an alternative option to the 2006 preferred route between Tyndale and Maclean.

Following consideration of the original investigations undertaken by Roads and Maritime, feedback from the community about the discussion paper for the alternative alignment released in October 2010 and outcomes of Roads and Maritime workshops, a decision has been made to proceed with the alternative alignment between Tyndale and Maclean.

The Tyndale to Maclean alternative route - assessment report outlines the reasons for the selection of the preferred route and submissions received.

Further consultation about the Tyndale to Maclean alternative route will be undertaken as part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina concept design and environmental assessment.

Roads and Maritime will continue to consider all issues raised during the development of the concept design and environmental assessment for the Woolgoolga to Ballina project.
