Southern toll plaza precinct upgrade

Roads and Maritime Services have begun removing the toll booths from the southern approaches to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This is part of a package of work to improve and adapt the toll plaza to the needs of a modern city.

Removing the southern toll booths provides an opportunity to simplify traffic movements to the Western Distributor and northern Sydney CBD. This would also enable continuation of the bus lane from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to York Street and provide space for bus readiness bays for buses approaching York Street in the PM peak.

Updates and announcements

To minimise impact on traffic and residents during construction, the work will be carried out in stages and is expected to be completed by early 2018.

For information on the weekly work schedule, please review the project documents on this page.

York and Grosvenor Streets intersection

This intersection needs to be upgraded as a result of changes to the way traffic will enter the city from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We will start work in this area from Friday 10 March 2017.

Due to the traffic volumes, most of the work will be at night, between 8pm and 5am. We will complete noisier activities by midnight.

Day work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm, from Monday to Friday. We may also need to carry out some day work on Saturdays and Sundays.
