Boundary Street and Babbage Road - Roseville to Roseville Chase

The Sydney Clearways Strategy identified Boundary Street, Babbage Road and Warringah Road between Pacific Highway, Roseville to Roseville Bridge, Roseville Chase as a route for the introduction of new clearways and changes to the existing clearways to better manage congestion on Sydney's road network.

Updates and announcements

In October, Roads and Maritime Services informed the community and key stakeholders about the new weekend and extended weekday clearways to be introduced on Boundary Street, Babbage Road and Warringah Road from Pacific Highway, Roseville to Roseville Bridge, Roseville Chase.

We also asked for feedback on an alternate business customer parking proposal to replace the parking that would be removed from the main road during the clearway hours.

We have summarised the feedback received on the alternate business customer parking and provided a response to the key matters raised in an engagement report (PDF, 1.39Mb).

The new weekend clearways and extended weekday clearways will be operational from 22 January 2018. We will be working with Ku-ring-gai Council to deliver the four ā€˜1Pā€™ parking spaces (two on Rowe Street and two on Allan Street) and wayfinding signage to assist in directing business customers to the council car parks before the new and extended clearways are introduced.

Background

The NSW Government announced the Sydney Clearways Strategy as one of its key initiatives to reduce congestion on Sydney’s major roads. $121 million was committed to implementing the strategy and installing new clearways on Sydney’s road network.

Installing new and extended clearways on weekdays and weekends can help reduce congestion in many areas of Sydney by allowing motorists to use all traffic lanes.

Since 2013, we have installed over 250 kilometres of new and extended clearways across some of Sydney’s busiest road corridors. We are continuing to investigate where new and extended clearways would help ease congestion and establish more reliable travel times for motorists across the network.

Clearway hours

Roads and Maritime Services is introducing new and extended clearways on Boundary Street, Babbage Road and Warringah Road from Pacific Highway, Roseville to Roseville Bridge, Roseville Chase. The new and extended clearways will operate in both directions from:

  • 6am to 7pm on weekdays
  • 9am to 6pm on weekends and public holidays.

The existing parking restrictions on Boundary Street, Babbage Road and Warringah Road will continue to operate outside the clearway times.

Extending the hours of operation of the clearways ensures all lanes are available to traffic and allows motorists to use the kerbside lane on approach to Clive Street which leads onto Eastern Valley Way.

The new weekend clearways and extended weekday clearways will be operational from 22 January 2018.

Alternate business parking arrangements

Roads and Maritime is working with Ku-ring-gai Council provide additional timed on-street parking for business customers nearby. This will supplement the existing available customer parking in nearby council car parks and in side streets.

Subject to Council agreement, the improved parking arrangements include the provision of:

  • four ‘1P’ parking spaces (two on Rowe Street and two on Allan Street).

The existing loading and mail zone on Rowe Street will be retained.

A map showing the additional parking arrangements can be found in the October 2017 project update.

Outcome of parking consultation

In October, we informed the community and key stakeholders (including businesses) about the new weekend and extended weekday clearways and asked for feedback from the on an additional business customer parking proposal.

We have summarised the feedback received and provided a response to the key matters raised in an engagement report (insert link to engagement report). The key matters raised were about the provision of adequate wayfinding signage to the existing council car park, and how deliveries can be made to businesses.

After considering the feedback, Roads and Maritime will continue to work with Ku-ring-gai Council to deliver the proposed, four ‘1P’ parking spaces (two on Rowe Street and two on Allan Street) and to deliver wayfinding signage to assist in directing business customers to the council car parks.

What happens next?

The new weekend clearways and extended weekday clearways will be operational from 22 January 2018.

We are working with Council to deliver the new timed parking and wayfinding signage before the new and extended clearways are introduced.

The new clearway signs will be installed along the corridor during mid-January 2018 (weather permitting) and the works will be undertaken at night to minimise disturbance.
