Forest Way - Belrose to Frenchs Forest

The Sydney Clearways Strategy identified Forest Way from Wyatt Avenue/Morgan Road, Belrose to Warringah Road, Frenchs Forest as a route for the investigation of new clearways to better manage congestion on Sydney's road network.

Updates and announcements

In February and March last year, Roads and Maritime Services asked for feedback from the community on a proposal to introduce new clearways on Forest Way Wyatt Avenue/Morgan Road, Belrose to Warringah Road, Frenchs Forest.

We received feedback from over 100 community members and stakeholders who raised matters in relation to the need for new clearways, changes to parking, and access to properties.

We have collated the feedback and provided responses to the key matters raised in a Community Consultation Report (PDF, 2.37Mb).

After considering all the feedback and a further review of traffic data, Roads and Maritime has revised the proposed clearway hours. Please view or download the February 2018 - Project Update (PDF, 305Kb) for more details.

We are progressing the proposal by displaying the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) Volume 1 (PDF, 4.53Mb) and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) Volume 2 (PDF, 9.73Mb) from Monday 26 February to Monday 19 March. The REF provides more detail on the matters raised during the consultation.

Refer to Display of Review of Environmental Factors’ for more information on the display and where you can view the REF.

We welcome any new comments by Monday 19 March 2018 via:

The comments received during the display will be considered by Roads and Maritime, and the community will be notified as the project progresses.

Project background

The NSW Government announced the Sydney Clearways Strategy as one of its key initiatives to reduce congestion on Sydney’s major roads. $121 million was committed to implementing the strategy and installing new clearways on Sydney’s road network.

Installing new and extended clearways on weekdays and weekends can help reduce congestion in many areas of Sydney by allowing motorists to use all traffic lanes.

Since 2013, we have installed over 320 kms of new and extended clearways across some of Sydney’s busiest road corridors. We are continuing to investigate where new and extended clearways would help ease congestion and provide more reliable travel times for road users across the network.

Clearways:

  • reduce congestion by making an additional lane available to traffic
  • improve journey times, allowing drivers to get to their destination sooner and more reliably
  • improve safety by removing parked vehicles from the kerbside lane
  • have an immediate positive impact on traffic flow as it uses existing road space for the movement of vehicles.

Consultation outcome

In February and March last year, Roads and Maritime Services asked for feedback from the community on a proposal to introduce new clearways on Forest Way Wyatt Avenue/Morgan Road, Belrose to Warringah Road, Frenchs Forest.

We distributed over 4,000 letters to residents, businesses, and other key stakeholders from Belrose to Frenchs Forest about the clearways proposal and asked for feedback.

We received feedback from over 100 community members and stakeholders who raised matters in relation to the need for new clearways, changes to parking, and access to properties. We have collated the community feedback and provided responses to the key matters raised in a Community Consultation Report.

After considering all the feedback and a further review of traffic data, Roads and Maritime has revised the proposed clearway hours.

We are progressing with the proposal by displaying the Review of Environmental Factors (REF):

The REF explains the revised clearway proposal and provides more detail on the matters raised during the consultation.

Clearways proposal

The table below shows the original and revised clearway hours, along with the current parking restrictions on Forest Way between Wyatt Avenue/Morgan Road, Belrose and Warringah Road, Frenchs Forest.

As shown in the table we are not progressing with weekend clearways north of Adams Street at this time.

Any existing parking restrictions will continue to operate outside proposed clearway hours.

* other parking restrictions operate in specific areas at other times
