Northern Beaches Hospital road upgrade project

The NSW Government is investing $500 million to upgrade the roads around the new Northern Beaches Hospital with work proposed to be completed in 2018.

The upgrades will provide customers with a better travel experience, increased capacity on the road network and improved access through the area, including for pedestrians and cyclists.

Ferrovial York Joint Venture (FYJV) has been engaged by Roads and Maritime to carry out the project.

Updates and announcements

Installation of Forest Way pedestrian and cyclist bridge

Roads and Maritime Services will complete the installation of the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge at the intersection of Warringah Road and Forest Way on Saturday 22 April and Wednesday 26 April.

This work will involve a full closure of Warringah Road, between Fitzpatrick Avenue and Forest Way, on Saturday 22 April between 8pm and 9am.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes including Mona Vale Road, Pittwater Road, and Pacific Highway.

Additional traffic conditions will be in place on Wednesday 26 April between 7pm and 5am, with two eastbound slip lanes closed on Warringah Road.

Construction update

Major construction work is underway across the project including:

  • Installing Forest Way pedestrian and cyclist bridge across Warringah Road
  • Removing existing kerbs and median strips
  • Relocating utilities and services, including telecommunications, electricity, gas, water, stormwater and drainage
  • Constructing retaining walls
  • Implementing traffic changes, including temporary lane closures and speed limit changes
  • Installing ramps for the Hilmer Street pedestrian and cyclist bridge
  • Establishing additional site compounds
  • Finalising installation of the noise walls along Warringah Road.
