Pacific Highway corridor - Chatswood to Artarmon Clearway - clearway installation

The Sydney Clearways Strategy identified Pacific Highway between Fullers Road/Help Street, Chatswood and Longueville Road/Gore Hill Freeway, Artarmon as a route for the investigation of new clearways to better manage congestion on Sydney's road network.

Updates and announcements

After considering all the feedback received during consultation last year, Roads and Maritime is proceeding with the proposal to install clearways on Pacific Highway between Fullers Road, Chatswood and Gore Hill Freeway, Artarmon.

We have summarised the feedback and our responses in a Community Consultation report (PDF,1.52Mb).

The new and extended clearways will be operational from Monday 5 March. For more information on the installation dates and clearways hours, please see the February 2018 Community update (PDF, 1.4Mb).

Project background

In December 2013, the NSW Government announced the Sydney Clearways Strategy as one of its key initiatives to reduce congestion on Sydney’s roads. The NSW Government has committed $121 million to implementing the strategy and installing new clearways on Sydney’s road network.

Pacific Highway between Chatswood and Artarmon is a key corridor that provides access between Chatswood and the Sydney CBD. It also forms part of the A1 corridor, which is a key strategic freight route, and a route of national significance.

Clearways are directly aimed at reducing congestion where a road is carrying traffic close to its capacity. The proposed clearways aim to ensure that all lanes are available during the times when traffic is heavy, which is expected to reduce congestion without the need for road widening.

What are the hours of operation?

The new and extended clearways will be in operation (in both directions) on Pacific Highway, between Fullers Road, Chatswood and Gore Hill Freeway, Artarmon from:

  • 6am to 7pm on weekdays
  • 9am to 6pm on weekends and public holidays.

There will be no changes to existing parking restrictions outside of the new clearway hours.

Alternate business parking arrangements

The proposed alternate business parking (subject to council approval) will include installing timed parking during clearway hours on:

  • the southern side of Fehon Road – five ‘1P’ parking spaces
  • the northern side of Moriarty Road – one ‘No Parking (funeral vehicles excepted)’ to replace one ‘2P’ parking space
  • the southern side of Moriarty Road – four ‘1P’ parking spaces to replace existing ‘2P’ parking spaces.

What happens next?

The new clearway signs and posts will be installed between Thursday 22 February and Sunday 4 March.

The new and extended clearways will be operational from Monday 5 March.

Roads and Maritime will continue to work with City of Willoughby Council to implement the proposed timed parking changes on local roads near businesses (subject to council approval).
