Proposed parking changes and clearways in Collaroy on Pittwater Road

Part of the Barrenjoey, Pittwater and Manly roads corridor between Fielding Street, Collaroy and Lismore Avenue, near Dee Why Lagoon.

Updates and announcements

Roads and Maritime Services has heard the community’s requests around fixing congestion on the Barrenjoey Pittwater and Manly roads corridor between Mona Vale and The Spit. We are addressing congestion on the corridor by proposing new weekday and weekend clearways.

On the Pittwater Road section of the corridor between Fielding Street, Collaroy and Lismore Avenue, near Dee Why Lagoon, Roads and Maritime Services are proposing to introduce the following clearway hours in both directions:

  • 6am to 7pm on weekdays
  • 9am to 6pm on weekends and public holidays.

We understand that the changes to parking on Pittwater Road would impact access to businesses through Collaroy. We have prepared an alternative business customer parking proposal to help maintain parking closes to businesses. Our proposed parking changes are in addition to the proposed Northern Beaches Council’s parking changes at Collaroy Beach council car parks.

We would like the community’s feedback on the new weekday and weekend clearways on this section of Pittwater Road and the alternative parking for business customers.

Roads and Maritime has listened to the community and we are keeping our consultation period open until we have had the opportunity to assess comunity feedback and understand local issues. We will extend the feedback period. Please send your feedback to clearways@rms.nsw.gov.au.

The clearways project team and members from Northern Beaches Council will be available to discuss the proposed new clearways and alternative business parking arrangements at Collaroy Beach Playground on:

  • Thursday 1 November from 4pm to 7pm.

We invite you to come and speak to us about how the changes would affect you.

Background

In August 2018, the NSW Government announced plans to introduce new and extended clearways on the Barrenjoey, Pittwater, and Manly roads corridor between Mona Vale and The Spit.

This route is the main corridor connecting the Northern Beaches to the Sydney CBD. The corridor is 20km long and carries more than 60,000 vehicles each day, with road users experiencing delays and congestion along this corridor in each direction.

New and extended clearways on this key corridor will help ease congestion, improve journey reliability, and improve safety for road users.

The clearways are being planned in sections along the corridor and will only be introduced once alternative business parking arrangements have been determined for each town centre following consultation with the community.

Proposed alternate business parking in Manly Vale for new and extended clearways

Earlier this year, we engaged with the community on the first section of the corridor proposed for new and extended clearways, and an alternative business parking proposal. This was for Condamine Street, Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation and Manly Road between Pittwater Road, Brookvale and Medusa Street, The Spit.

Roads and Maritime received feedback from businesses and residents, and are in the process of preparing an engagement report which includes a summary and response to the key concerns.

Clearway hours

Alternative business customer parking

We found that business parking through Collaroy would be impacted by the new clearway hours. We are working with Northern Beaches Council to deliver alternative parking close to the businesses.

Our proposal is shown below in Map A and Map B, and involves converting unrestricted on-street parking spaces to timed spaces as well as the introduction of new spaces. This is in addition to the proposed Northern Beaches Council’s parking changes at Collaroy Beach council car parks.

What happens next?

We invite your feedback on the new clearways and alternative business parking arrangements. Please send your comments to clearways@rms.nsw.gov.au or call 1300 706 232.

The clearways project team and members from Northern Beaches Council will be available to discuss the proposed new clearways and alternative business parking arrangements at Collaroy Beach Playground on:

  • Thursday 25 October from 4pm to 7pm
  • Sunday 28 October from 10am to 1pm
  • Thursday 1 November from 4pm to 7pm.

We invite you to come and speak to us about how the changes would affect you.

We will consider your feedback on the new clearways and proposed alternative parking and continue to update you as the project progresses.

Roads and Maritime understands the importance of keeping the community up to date with changes to the NSW road network and parking within the local area.
