Alfords Point Road, Illawong/Alfords Point

The NSW Government is building this $40 million upgrade to widen Alfords Point Road between the Georges River and Brushwood Drive, with work proposed to be completed by December 2017.

The upgrade forms part of a broader plan to improve road safety and traffic flow along Alfords Point Road and through the southern region of Sydney. The upgrade will also provide further improvements to the local road network.

Roads and Maritime Services has contracted Nace Civil Engineering to upgrade Alfords Point Road.

Updates and announcements

Roads and Maritime Services will carry out asphalting as part of building the new heavy vehicle inspection bay, on the southbound carriageway of Alfords Point Road, beneath the Old Illawarra Road Bridge.

We will also carry out underboring on Alfords Point Road to install electrical cabling for a future electronic message sign and possible CCTV camera. This work will be carried out at night to minimise impact to motorists.

The work will take up to four shifts to complete between Monday 15 August and Friday 19 August, weather permitting. Our working hours will be from 7pm to 5am.

There will be some temporary traffic changes to make sure the work zone is safe. Lane closures will be in place and may affect travel times. View or download the notification (PDF, 299Kb) for more information.

We will continue to keep you informed at key stages of the project.

Construction hours

Construction will generally be carried out during standard construction hours including 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and occasionally on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm, weather permitting.

Some work will need to be carried out at night to maintain safety measures, lessen impact on the road network and maintain the service continuity of utilities when they are being relocated.
