Intersection improvements on Hoxton Park Road and Hill Road Lurnea

Updates and announcements

In July and November 2016, Roads and Maritime Services sought community feedback on a proposal to construct a dedicated left turn lane from Hoxton Park Road into Hill Road at the intersection of Hoxton Park Road and Hill Road, Lurnea.  The new dedicated left turn lane would reduce congestion westbound and improve safety by reducing the number of rear-end crashes from motorists changing lanes.

After considering all responses, along with the proposal’s aims and design requirements, we have decided to proceed with the proposal unchanged.

Work will take place between Wednesday, 19 April and Wednesday, 25 October 2017, excluding public holidays and Sundays, weather permitting. Our day work hours will be between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturday. Our night work hours will be between 8pm and 5am from Monday to Saturday.

Project background

The NSW Government is funding this work as part of its $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s busiest corridors.

Project features

The proposed left turn lane would:

  • Help prevent motorists turning left into Hill Road from slowing down westbound traffic
  • Reduce congestion by allowing westbound traffic to move through the intersection faster
  • Improve safety by reducing the number of rear-end crashes and crashes from motorists changing lanes.

Community engagement

Roads and Maritime sought feedback on the proposal in July 2016. Following a review of the comments, we decided to continue investigating the proposal.
