The Sydney South region includes the suburbs south and east of the CBD, to Heathcote Road in the west and the Royal National Park in the south.
In February 2007, work commenced to duplicate Alfords Point Bridge over the Georges River between Alfords Point and Padstow Heights. The duplication project was completed and opened to traffic in August 2008.
The contract for the $35 million Bangor Bypass Stage 2 was awarded in June 2009. Construction commenced in December 2009 with the project opening to traffic in early 2011.
In June 2009, a contract was awarded for the $44 million Alfords Point Bridge northern approach widening, with construction commencing in October 2009. The project has eliminated tidal flow traffic arrangements from Alfords Point Road and was opened to traffic in November 2011.
Roads and Maritime Services currently planning upgrade the Alfords Point Bridge southern approach to continue to improve traffic flow and road safety in southern Sydney.
