New and extended clearways on Taren Point Road

Between Captain Cook Bridge, Taren Point and Kingsway, Caringbah.

Updates and announcements

In November 2017, Roads and Maritime Services informed the community, businesses and key stakeholders about introducing new weekend and extended weekday clearways on Taren Point Road between Captain Cook Bridge, Taren Point and Kingsway, Caringbah.

We also asked for feedback on the proposed alternate business parking in Box Road and Kumulla Road to offset parking removed by the new and extended clearways on Taren Point Road.

We have summarised the feedback received during the engagement period and have provided a response to the key matters raised in the May 2018 Engagement Report. Roads and Maritime would like to thank everyone who provided feedback during the engagement period.

After considering the feedback received, Roads and Maritime will be progressing to install the new and extended clearways on Taren Point Road with some changes to the proposed clearways hours between The Boulevarde/Captain Cook Drive and Kingsway. We are also introducing additional parking restrictions to provide additional lane capacity to improve the traffic throughput at the intersections of Taren Point Road with The Boulevarde/Captain Cook Drive and Kingsway.

We will provide further updates for the community before installation works begin.

Engagement Outcome

Last November we informed the community about introducing new weekend and extended weekday clearways on Taren Point Road between Captain Cook Bridge, Taren Point and Kingsway, Caringbah.

We used a number of methods to inform the community about the new weekend and extended weekday clearways, as well as the way feedback could be provided. We distributed letters to residents and stakeholders within close proximity to Taren Point Road, we doorknocked impacted businesses, we held an Information Kiosk at Caringbah Home centre and published a social media post and a newspaper notice in St George and Sutherland Shire Leader to reach motorists and the broader community

We encourage you to view our responses in the May 2018 Engagement Report.

New alternative business parking

Roads and Maritime will continue to work with Sutherland Shire Council to finalise the alternate business parking and the reconfiguration of kerbside parking in Box Road (west of Taren Point Road) to help mitigate the impact of the parking changes on businesses and the community. Locations of the alternate business parking in Box Road and Kumulla Road is available on the May 2018 Project Update.

New parking restrictions

To further improve the efficiency at the intersections of Taren Point Road with The Boulevarde/Captain Cook Drive and Kingsway, Roads and Maritime will be introducing new ‘No Parking’ and extended ‘No Stopping’ restrictions to provide additional lane capacity that will improve the traffic throughput at these intersections. Details of the new parking restrictions are available on the May 2018 Project Update.

What happens next?

Roads and Maritime will continue to work with Sutherland Shire Council to finalise the alternate business parking in Box Road and Kumulla Road.

The new and extended clearways and additional parking restrictions will be delivered in conjunction with the alternate business parking. We will keep the community updated as the project progresses.
