Rooty Hill Road North has been identified as a pinch point and the northern approach of the intersection of Rooty Hill Road North has heavy single right turn movement which causes congestion and delays.

Roads and Maritime Services has completed these intersection improvements. This project involved upgrading the intersection of Rooty Hill Road North and Luxford Road.

Project background

The NSW Government is funding this proposal as part of its $225 million Pinch Point Program which aims to reduce delays, manage congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s major roads, particularly during weekday peak periods.

Benefits

The key benefits to the community include:

  • Improving traffic flow on Rooty Hill Road North and Luxford Road
  • Reducing congestion and improve travel times
  • Improving safety for pedestrians crossing Luxford Road.

Completed works

  • modified through and right turn lane enabling dual right turns onto Luxford Road
  • adjusted median to create an additional right turn lane into Rooty Hill Road North
  • installed left turn slip lane from Luxford Road onto Rooty Hill Road North
  • a new traffic island on Luxford Road to accommodate a signalised pedestrian crossing
  • reconstructed kerbs and footpaths.

Community engagement

We invited feedback on the proposal and night work schedule in January and notified the community and stakeholders in May that we would be proceeding with the project.
