Intersection improvements at Luxford Road and Rooty Hill Road North, Oakhurst

Rooty Hill Road North has been identified as a pinch point and the northern approach of the intersection of Rooty Hill Road North has heavy single right turn movement which causes congestion and delays.

Updates and announcements

This work is now complete and the intersection is open to traffic. Many thanks for your patience while we carried out this work.

Project background

The NSW Government is funding this proposal as part of its $225 million Pinch Point Program which aims to reduce delays, manage congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s major roads, particularly during weekday peak periods.

To alleviate congestion Roads and Maritime is proposing to convert the Rooty Hill Road North northern approach middle through lane into a through and right turn lane and alter the Luxford Road approach. This would increase capacity at the intersection, minimising congestion and improving road safety for pedestrians.

The key benefits to the community include:

  • Improving traffic flow on Rooty Hill Road North and Luxford Road
  • Reducing congestion and improve travel times
  • Improving safety for pedestrians crossing Luxford Road.

Key features

  • Modifying the southbound Rooty Hill Road North middle through lane to a shared through and right turn lane to enable dual right turns onto Luxford Road
  • Widening through the median on Luxford Road to create an additional right turn lane into Rooty Hill Road North
  • Installing a left turn slip lane from Luxford Road onto Rooty Hill Road North
  • Providing a new traffic island adjacent to the left turn slip lane on Luxford Road to accommodate a signalised pedestrian crossing
  • Asphalting and linemarking
  • Reconstructing kerbs and footpaths
  • Removing shrubs in the median.

Community engagement

We invited feedback on the proposal and night work schedule in January and notified the community and stakeholders in May that we would be proceeding with the project.
