Significant walking and cycling projects in the Hunter and Central Coast region.

2015-2016

The following projects are delivered by council. Details are available by contacting the relevant council:

  • Cessnock:
    • Investigation and development of a new BikePlan for the LGA of Cessnock
  • Gosford:
    • Design for a shared path along 1) the eastern side of Masons Parade from Lynn Avenue to York Street (Central Coast Highway); and 2) the southern side of York Street (Central Coast Highway) from Masons Parade to Frederick Street, Point Frederick
    • Planning and design for on-road cycleway along Central Coast Highway between Terrigal Drive and Avoca Drive, Terrigal
  • Great Lakes:
    • Implementation of Forster Cycling Towns program is a package of works including cycleway connections, end of trip facilities, transport and travel planning and wayfinding
  • Lake Macquarie:
    • Design for extending the Fernleigh Track from Railway Parade, Belmont to the existing shared path along the eastern side of the Pacific Highway at its intersection with Awabakal Avenue, Blacksmiths
    • Design for road shoulders along both sides of 1) Bareki Road from Eleebana Road to Harkins Street; and 2) Macquarie Drive from Harkins Street to the Warners Bay Lions Park Boat Ramp access driveway, Eleebana
  • Maitland:
    • Construction of a shared path along the southwestern side of the Main Northern Railway Line from Victoria Street to High Street, East Maitland (250 metres) - includes improvements to access for the High Street refuge crossing
  • Newcastle:
    • Design of directional (wayfinding) / destination signage for both on-road and off-road cycleways throughout the Newcastle LGA
    • Design for a shared path of approximately 430m along the northern side of Park Avenue from Kullaiba Road to Northcott Drive, Kotara
    • Design for an east-west Newcastle West to Newcastle East cycleway considering:
      1. A shared path along the eastern side of Selma Street from Parry Street to Hunter Street;
      2. A bicycle lane along the southern side of Hunter Street from Selma Street to Perkins Street;
      3. A contraflow bicycle lane along the northern side of Hunter Street from Perkins Street to Pacific Street;
      4. Mixed traffic lanes along both sides of Perkins Street; and
      5. A bicycle lane along the northern side of King Street and Parry Street from Darby Street to Selma Street, Newcastle
    • Design of a shared path along 1) the western side of Chatham Road from Griffiths Road to Bates Street, Hamilton North; and 2) the southeastern side of Chatham Road and Clyde Street from Bates Street, Hamilton North to Chinchen Street, Islington
    • Planning and design for a shared path within the Broadmeadow Sporting Precinct, inclusive of a upgrade/widening of existing bridges, from District Park across the Styx Creek Canal to and along the northern side of the Hockey Fields and then across the Lambton Ker-Rai Creek Canal to the International Sports Centre, Broadmeadow
    • Planning and design of an off-road path connecting John Hunter Hospital and Thomas Street including areas of parkland in Wallsend Park, Elermore Vale and Rankin Park
    • Design and construction of shared path through the rail corridor from Prince Street, Waratah to Alfred Street, under the Maud Street rail overbridge and along the rail corridor to reconnect to the existing cycleway path at Vera Street
  • Port Stephens :
    • Design of a shared path along the Port Stephens foreshore from the Roy Wood Reserve Car Park (adjacent the intersection of Foreshore Drive and Sandy Point Road) to the Conroy Park Car Park (120 metres northeast of the Sandy Point Road and The Peninsula intersection), Corlette
    • Installation of behavioural signs at entry points and mid-block locations along shared path throughout the Port Stephens LGA - in the Nelsons Bay area and Raymond Terrace & Medowie
  • Singleton:
    • Construction of a shared path (120m) along the northwestern side of Civic Avenue from Queen Street to the Singleton Leisure Centre Car Park, Singleton
  • Wyong:
    1. Delineation of road shoulders along both sides of Redmyre Street from the southeastern extent of the existing shared path in Lions Park (northern end of Redmyre Street) to Wyong Road;
    2. Construction of a shared path along
      1. The northern side of Shelly Beach Road from Redmyre Street to the existing refuge crossing 85 metres east of Redmyre Street;
      2. The southern side of Shelly Beach Road from the refuge Crossing, 85 metres east of Redmyre Street, to The Entrance Road (Central Coast Highway);
      3. The eastern side of The Entrance Road (Central Coast Highway) from Shelly Beach Road to Yakalla Street; and
      4. The northern side of Yakalla Street from The Entrance Road (Central Coast Highway) to the Yakalla Street Pedestrian Crossing, Shelly Beach.

2016-2017

  • Cessnock City Council:
    • Construct a pedestrian crossing on Lang Street between Mitchell Avenue and Merthyr Street, Kurri Kurri
  • Dungog Shire Council:
    • Construct pedestrian facilities at the Dowling Street/Hooke Street intersection, Dungog
  • Gosford City Council:
    • Design a mid-block signalised pedestrian crossing on the Central Coast Highway 200,m east of the Pitt Road intersection, Wamberal
    • Plan for a cycleway along Charles Kay Drive, Terrigal
  • Great Lakes Council:
    • Construct pedestrian refuge at the Lake Street/Hadley Street intersection, Forster
    • Construct two pedestrian refuges on Head Street and MacIntosh Street, Forster
    • Construct a 415m cycleway along Lake Street between Little Street and MacIntosh Street, Forster
  • Lake Macquarie City Council:
    • Plan for pedestrian signalised crossing facilities in Walmsley St, Dora Creek
    • Plan for pedestrian refuges at Brooks Parade, Belmont
    • Construct kerb ramps at the Pacific Highway/Gommera Street intersection, Blacksmiths
    • Plan for a cycleway on Bareki Rd between Eleebana Road and Harkins Street, Eleebana
  • Maitland City Council:
    • Construct a pedestrian refuge on Weblands St, Rutherford
    • Plan for a pedestrian refuge across Bungaree Street
    • Plan for pedestrian refuge across South Street, Telarah

    • Plan for a 630m shared user path on New England Hwy between Devonshire Street and ANZAC Street, Maitland

    • Design Traffic Control Signals at the New England Highway/Lorne Street, Muswellbrook
    • Construct a 300m cycleway along Dolahenty Street between Victoria Street and King Street, Muswellbrook
    • Construct a 230m shared user path along Rutherford Road between Cassidy Avenue and Showground entrance, Muswellbrook
  • Newcastle City Council:
    • Construct kerb ramps along Tooke Street, Cooks Hill
    • Design a kerb blister at the Corpus Christi School, Waratah
    • Design a raised pedestrian crossing on Laman Street, Bull Street and Union Street, Newcastle West
    • Design a raised pedestrian crossing on Lexington Parade at Kotara High School
    • Design a pedestrian refuge on Cardiff Road north of Smith Street, Elermore Vale
    • Design a pedestrian refuge at Marton Street/Sandgate Road intersection, Sandgate
    • Design a pedestrian refuge at the William Street/Bryant Street intersection, Tighes Hill
    • Design improved pedestrian crossing facilities at the Industrial Drive/Vine Street intersection, Mayfield West

    • Commence construction of a 865m shared user path at Maud Street, Mayfield West

    • Design a cycleway over Newcastle Road to replace existing R5 route, Jesmond
    • Design a 3,500m shared user path between Wallsend and Rankin Park
    • Construct a 170m shared user path to connect to the Stockton Bridge, Stockton
    • Design a 8,500m shared user path between Shortland and Tarro
    • Plan a grade separated pedestrian and cycleway facility across Park Avenue, Adamstown
