Roads and Maritime Services maintain an inspection scheme to ensure all registered vehicles have a minimum safety standard.
The scheme is called:
- AIS - Authorised Inspection Scheme
The Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS)
The AIS inspect vehicles to ensure they comply with relevant safety standards. In most cases, these vehicles are inspected for establishment, renewal or transfer of registration.
For more information follow the link to What is the AIS?
RMS maintains another scheme for modified vehilces. It is called VSCCS. The details are below:
Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme (VSCCS)
VSCCS replaced the Engineering Certification Scheme (ECS) in 2011.
Under the scheme, modified vehicles and non-standard vehicles may be inspected and certified (if compliant) by authorised Roads and Maritime Services representatives. These people are known as VSCCS licensed certifiers.
Anyone with a significantly modified vehicle should take it to a VSCCS licensed certifier for inspection to ensure it remains safe for you, your family and other road users.
For more information, see Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme (VSCCS).
