Roads and Maritime Services is proposing to introduce intelligent technology, known as a managed motorway system, for Sydney's M4 Motorway from Lapstone to Pitt Street, Mays Hill. This will connect with the Westconnex project at Mays Hill.
The Westconnex project proposes to widen the M4 motorway, from Church Street, Parramatta to near Concord Road. For more information on the current and future phases of work please refer to the WestConnex website.
What is a managed motorway?
'Managed motorway' is the term used to describe a motorway that brings together complementary technologies to maximise the performance from the road infrastructure. A suite of communication systems and coordinated traffic management tools create a fully managed road environment that combines intelligence, control and information. What is happening now?
Work started on the concept design and environmental assessment in December 2012. The Review of Environmental Factors will be placed on public display and the community will be invited to make a submission. This is scheduled for mid 2014 and will give the community the opportunity to have their say on the project and to see the concept plans for the new system.
