New Bluff Point ferry for Lawrence
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has installed a new ferry to service the communities of Lawrence and Woodford Island.
The new ferry is larger and required new road approaches and wider ramps to be built. The new ramps, located immediately upstream of the existing ferry, were completed in December 2012.
The new ferry has the capacity to carry an additional six vehicles and will require a reduced maintenance program.
The ferry was commissioned following consultation between RMS and local community groups. RMS identified the need to replace the old ferry due to increased traffic demands of users as well as increased demand during holiday periods and peak business demands.
