Comment on options for alternative alignment south of Macksville
Roads and Maritime Services is working on the Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads Pacific Highway upgrade to make ready for construction. The project was approved in 2011. Later that year, a camp of grey-headed flying foxes took up residence for part of the year on the approved alignment of the new highway in the area of Bald Hill Road, south of Macksville.
An assessment of the camp has been carried out and four alternative alignment options have been developed to mitigate impacts on the flying fox camp. These options are now on display alongside the previously approved alignment, for further community comment.
The display is available until Monday 14 October. Your feedback is invited during this time.
The project team will also be available to discuss the alternative options at a staffed display on Thursday 19 September, between 3pm and 7pm, at the Warrell Creek community hall in Albert Drive, Warrell Creek.
A community update which provides a summary of the four alternative options as well as the Comparative Assessment Report, September 2013, are available to view.
Shortlist of contractors invited to tender
The two shortlisted contractors have been invited to tender to design and build the Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads section of the Pacific Highway upgrade.
Abigroup and the Acciona Ferrovial Joint Venture were selected to proceed to the next phase of the tendering process.
The preferred tenderer for the Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads section will be announced later this year, and building is anticipated to start mid next year.
The Pacific Highway between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour currently covers a distance of 151 kilometres. When upgraded it will have a length of 146 kilometres.
Currently there are:
- 36 kilometres of four lane divided highway.
- 14.5 kilometres of four lane divided highway under construction.
- 48 kilometres being prepared for construction of four lane divided highway.
- 57.4 kilometres of four lane divided highway being planned.
Please note: The kilometres in the dot points above may vary from the total length for this section due to adjustments made for connections and current four lane sections not on the final alignment.
