Bells Line of Road Corridor Improvement Program

Overview

In 2012, the Australian and NSW governments completed a long term strategic plan for the Bells Line of Road corridor to identify improvement works and set priorities for the next 20 years and beyond.

The plan recommends safety and traffic improvements for the existing route.

In February 2014 Roads and Maritime Services started work on a one kilometre long eastbound overtaking lane starting about 7.5km west of the township of Kurrajong Heights, between Pattersons Ridge Fire Trail and Glenara. Work is expected to be completed by October this year, weather permitting.

This is one of seven overtaking lanes currently proposed for the Bells Line of Road between Kurrajong Heights and Mount Tomah over the next four years. The above map highlights the seven overtaking lanes proposed and can be viewed from the project map page.

What happens next?

Further proposals from North Richmond to Lithgow will be developed over the next 12 months. Roads and Maritime Services will advise residents of upcoming work including vegetation removal, adjustments to utilities, pavement construction, sign installation and line marking.
