The NSW Government has upgraded the structural capacity of Dunmore Bridge to meet current load requirements and reduce future maintenance costs. Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) managed this project.
Dunmore bridge was closed to all traffic from Saturday 22 September 2012 to Friday 19 October 2012 to replace all truss and approach spans. Dunmore Bridge is now open to traffic.
RMS delivered this upgrade with an extended full closure as it was a more cost effective, safer and more time efficient option. Community feedback in December 2010 supported this approach over multiple short term bridge closures of between three and five days each.
Features of the upgrade
The features of the structural upgrade will include:
- Reconstructing and upgrading of all three timber truss spans, including new stress laminated timber decks and traffic barriers.
- Replacing the approach span and its abutment, which included driving steel piles and installing new concrete timber composite deck units.
- Upgrading the deck and traffic barriers at the lift span to tie in with the upgraded truss spans.
- Upgrading the road approaches and traffic barriers.
