Vehicular ferries

Roads and Maritime Services operates the following vehicular ferries on rivers and waterways in metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW. There is no charge for using the ferries.

Sydney Region

  • Berowra Waters Ferry

    Berowra Waters Ferry

    The Berowra ferry crosses Berowra Creek at Berowra Waters from Bay Road (Tourist Drive 11) to Berowra Waters Road. Information regarding the Berowra ferry service is displayed on variable message signs at Berowra Waters Rd, Berowra Heights and Bay Rd, Berrilee. Please note that trucks longer than 7 meters will not be able to approach the ferry due to road restrictions.

    Operating Time:

    24 hours, 7 days a week

    Service Day:

    Ferry services will not operate on the second Tuesday of each month between 12 noon and 2.30pm

  • Mortlake Ferry

    Mortlake Ferry

    Commonly known to locals as the Putney punt the Mortlake ferry began operating in 1925 and is the only remaining punt in the Sydney metropolitan area. It crosses the Parramatta River from Hilly Street, Mortlake to Pellisier Road, Putney.

    Operating Time - Putney side:

    Monday - Friday (excluding public holidays)

    6.55am to 9.35am and 2.55pm to 6.25pm

    Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays

    Every half hour between 10.45am and 5.35pm

    Operating Time - Mortlake side:

    Monday - Friday (excluding public holidays)

    6.45am to 9.25am and 2.45pm to 6.15pm

    Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays

    Every half hour between 10.30am and 5.30pm

  • Sackville Ferry

    Sackville Ferry

    The Sackville ferry crosses the Hawkesbury River, north of Sackville on the Sackville Road and connects the roads linking Windsor and Wisemans Ferry.

    Operating Time:

    24 hours, 7 days a week

    Service Day:

    Ferry services will not operate on the first Wednesday of every month between 12.45pm and 3.00pm

    Webb's Creek Ferry

    The Webbs Creek ferry at Wisemans Ferry crosses the Hawkesbury River just south of the junction of the Macdonald River.

    Operating Time:

    24 hours, 7 days a week

    Service Day:

    Ferry services will not operate on the first Tuesday of every month between 9.30am to 12:00pm

    Trip Duration:

    5 mins (Please allow up to 15 mins waiting time)

  • Wisemans Ferry

    The Wisemans ferry crosses the Hawkesbury River just east of the junction of the Macdonald River at the village of Wisemans Ferry. Bushwalkers wanting to trek up Devine's Hill and the Great North Road should use this crossing.

    Operating Time:

    24 hours, 7 days a week.
    The second ferry operates in conjunction with the main ferry on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays 11am to 7pm during the Daylight Savings period and 9am to 5pm outside of the Daylight Savings period.

    Service Day:

    There is no interruption to service during maintenance periods as two ferries are available at this crossing

Northern Region

  • Lawrence Ferry

    Lawrence Ferry

    The Lawrence ferry crossing the Clarence River at Rutland Street, Lawrence this ferry shuttles between Lawrence and Woodford Island and is part of Tourist Drive 22. Vehicles with long overhang will have problems at low tide.

    Operating Time:

    24 hours, 7 days a week

    Service Day:

    There is no interruption to service during maintenance periods as two ferries are available at this crossing

  • Ulmarra Ferry

    Ulmarra Ferry

    The Ulmarra ferry operates between the town of Ulmarra and Southgate.

    Operating Time:

    7 days a week
    6.00am to 10.00am; 10.20am to 12.40pm; 1.00pm to 6.00pm; 6.20pm to 10.40pm

    Service Day:

    Ferry services will not operate on the first Wednesday of each month between 9:30am to 12:30pm

South Western Region

  • Speewa Ferry

    Speewa Ferry

    The Speewa ferry crosses the Murray River approximately 20km north of Swan Hill on an unclassified road between Swan Hill and Nyah. It is a three-car ferry.

    Operating Time:

    Seven days a week

    Monday to Thursday: 7am to 9pm
    Friday: 7am to midnight
    Saturday: 7.30am to midnight
    Sunday: 8am to 9pm

    Last ferry leaves NSW bank 15 minutes prior to finish of each shift.
    Last ferry leaves Victorian bank 10 minutes prior to finish of each shift.

    Ferry services will not operate on the second Monday of every month between 10:30am and 12:00pm

  • Wymah Ferry

    Wymah Ferry

    The Wymah ferry crosses the Murray River approximately 45 kilometres east of Albury at Wymah (NSW) / Granya (Vic). It is a three car ferry and is not suitable for caravans.

    Operating Time:

    Seven days a week

    September to April: 6am to 9pm
    May to August: 7am to 8pm

    Service Day:

    Ferry services will not operate on the first Wednesday of every month between 9:00am and 12:00pm
