Safety improvement work starts on Mitchell Highway at Shadforth
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will start work next week on a project to provide motorists with improved safety and reduced travel times on the Mitchell Highway near the intersection of Millthorpe Road at Shadforth.
Member for Orange Andrew Gee said in the five years to June this year, there were seven crashes on this section of the highway causing three injuries, making safety improvements a priority.
“The NSW Government has provided $780,000 for widening work and to install safety barriers,” Mr Gee said.
“The Mitchell Highway will be widened by for a length of about 150 metres to allow for an acceleration lane for motorists turning left out of Millthorpe Road to merge safely with highway traffic.
“Safety barriers are also being installed which aim to reduce off-road crashes into nearby large drains.
“Work is scheduled to start next week and is expected to be completed in October,” Mr Gee said.
Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions including short delays while the work is carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and on Saturdays between 7am and 1pm.
Wet weather may change work dates and times.
Traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place where needed to ensure the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
