Speed limit changes in Tamworth

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is encouraging motorists to slow down when travelling along the Oxley Highway at Tamworth with speed limit changes to be implemented in the next fortnight to increase safety for motorists.

Mr Anderson said a recent speed zone review found by reducing the speed limit to 50km/h from 60km/h would improve safety for all road users.

“The review was carried out in accordance with the NSW Speed Zoning Guidelines and in consultation with Tamworth Regional Council.

“The review assessed a number of factors including roadside development, traffic flow and crash statistics.

“The existing speed limit of 60km/h on Bridge and Brisbane streets near the Oxley Highway from 50 metres west of Mahoney Avenue to Marius Street will be reduced to 50km/h for a distance of 2.1 kilometres.

“Warning signs will be in place to advise motorists of the change and will remain for at least a week after the new speed limit signs have been installed by Tamworth Regional Council,” Mr Anderson said.

Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits.
