Safety Upgrades at Braidwood and Bungendore

Braidwood and Bungendore will soon benefit from road safety improvements on the Kings Highway with additional pedestrian crossings and roundabouts planned for both towns, the Member for Monaro John Barilaro said today.

Work to build a pedestrian crossing on Wallace Street, between Duncan and Lascelles streets in Braidwood, is expected to start in the first half of this year.

Planning for a staged pedestrian crossing on the Kings Highway (Malbon Street) at Ellendon Street and a roundabout on the Kings Highway at the intersection of Molonglo Street will be completed for Bugendore.

“I’m delighted to see Roads and Maritime and Palerang Council have responded to community concerns to make this stretch of the Kings Highway far less hazardous for pedestrians and motorists,” said Mr Barilaro.

Last year’s decision to install a second zebra crossing at Braidwood followed several months of close community consultation and advocacy on behalf of Mr Barilaro.

“As part of the safety improvements for Braidwood, the existing pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Park Lane will also be upgraded to include kerb extensions,” said Mr Barilaro.

“Design and project development of a new roundabout at the intersection of Wallace and Lascelles street in Braidwood will also start this year.

“These projects will go a long way to enhance the safety of pedestrians by improving the visibility to oncoming vehicles and reducing the length of road to cross.”

A combined submissions report from Roads and Maritime Services and Palerang Council has been released and is available to view or download here.
