Changed traffic conditions on Gerringong upgrade

26 May 2014

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward today advised local motorists of changed traffic conditions at the Belinda Street and Fern Street intersections with the Princes Highway over the next two weeks as work continues on the $329 million Gerringong upgrade.

Mr Ward said that night work will take place from Monday 2nd June to Thursday 5th June, weather permitting to lay large drainage pipes underneath the road and build the road to protect the Princes Highway and Belinda Street from localised flooding.

“As a result of the work Belinda Street will be temporarily closed at night between the Princes Highway and existing railway bridge between 8pm and 5am,” he said.

“Motorists can still drive into and out of Gerringong during the temporary closure by using Fern Street. Northbound motorists should use the Rose Valley Road u-turn bay to access Fern Street.

“Outside of the night closures Belinda Street will be returned to one lane in each direction. A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place.

“Work is also progressing on the Fern Street bridge, which has crossed the railway line and is now approaching the existing highway.

“From Tuesday 10th June motorists travelling south on the Princes Highway will be moved onto a temporary section of road to the east of the existing highway near Fern Street.

“There will also be a temporary closure of the intersection of the Princes Highway and Fern Street.

“To minimise the impact on motorists the temporary closure will be at night from Tuesday 10th June to Thursday 12th June, weather permitting between 7pm and 6am.

“Access into and out of Gerringong will be via Belinda Street. The Fern Street intersection will remain open to traffic outside the night work.

“During work traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and signs will be in place to guide motorists. Motorists should expect some delays,” Mr Ward said.
