Safety upgrade of Nelson Bay Road at Williamtown now complete
Roads and Maritime Services has completed a $1.7 million upgrade of Nelson Bay Road just east of the Medowie Road roundabout at Williamtown aimed at improving safety for road users.
Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann said the project to strengthen the road surface and provide a two metre shoulder on both sides of the road, started at the end of April.
“The project will deliver a safer road surface for motorists and reduce ongoing maintenance costs,” Mr Baumann said.
“New safety barriers have also been installed to prevent motorists from veering off the side of the road.
“This work will provide motorists and cyclists a safer journey along Nelson Bay Road.”
Work has been completed on schedule and traffic conditions have now returned to normal.
The project is part of Roads and Maritime’s commitment to deliver safe, efficient and high quality road infrastructure to Hunter motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
