Motorists encouraged to slow down on Mitchell Highway at North Bourke
10 October 2014
Motorists are encouraged to slow down on the Mitchell Highway at North Bourke as a reduced speed limit is implemented on the road in the next fortnight, weather permitting.
Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries said Roads and Maritime Services has carried out a review of the road as part of an ongoing speed zone review program and in response to community representations.
“The review assessed factors including pedestrian activity, the road environment, traffic volumes and crash data,” Mr Humphries said.
“As a result of the review, the existing speed limit will be reduced from 90 km/h to 50 km/h for a 320 metre section of road south west of the Hungerford Road intersection.
“Electronic message signs are in place to advise motorists of the changes and will remain for at least a week after the new speed limit signs have been installed.”
Mr Humphries said members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits.
