Major upgrade for Middle Falbrook Bridge at Glennies Creek
2 March 2015
George Souris, MP, Member for Upper Hunter announced that motorists will soon benefit from a major upgrade to strengthen and improve Middle Falbrook Bridge over Glennies Creek at Middle Falbrook.
“The NSW Government is funding the restoration of Middle Falbrook Bridge as part of the $145 million Bridges for the Bush program which aims to improve road freight productivity in regional NSW and maintain assets to ensure ongoing performance,” Mr. Souris said.
“Built in 1904, the Middle Falbrook Bridge requires restoration and strengthening to meet current vehicle load standards.
“The bridge is one of 26 identified for conservation in the Roads and Maritime Timber Truss Bridge Conservation Strategy developed in consultation with the Heritage Council of NSW,” Mr. Souris added.
The Nationals candidate for Upper Hunter, Michael Johnsen, was advised of this funding and was pleased that Middle Falbrook Bridge would undergo a major upgrade.
Mr. Souris said the Middle Falbrook Bridge is of heritage significance and forms an important part of the road network. “The upgrade will replace and strengthen the timber trusses, decking and road approaches at both ends of the bridge while ensuring heritage features are preserved.
“Roads and Maritime is encouraging the community to provide feedback on different options to carry out the work with minimum impact to motorists and the community.
