Macquarie Pass to close for essential maintenance
6 August 2015
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward has advised local motorists across the region that the Illawarra Highway at Macquarie Pass will be closed later this month for essential maintenance work to improve road users’ safety.
Mr Ward said that the Illawarra Highway will be closed in both directions at Macquarie Pass between 9am to 3pm on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th August, weather permitting.
“Access to the highway between Macquarie Pass and Tullimbar will be maintained for local traffic and businesses,” he said.
“The NSW Government allocated $120,000 for road surface repairs and maintenance of drains, road signs, guardrails, vegetation trimming, rubbish removal and inspection of the road surface to inform future maintenance requirements.
“Heavy vehicles travelling between the Hume Highway and Albion Park will be diverted onto Picton Road adding about 90 minutes to their journey.
“Light vehicles can detour via Jamberoo Road which will add an additional 20 minutes to journeys.
“Traffic control will be in place to help direct motorists and electronic message signs will display up to date information including any date changes and detours.
“I certainly thank local motorists for their patience and understanding whilst this essential work is being carried out,” Mr Ward said.
