Have your say on Westminster Street and Railway Terrace intersection improvements
10 August 2015
Community feedback is being invited to the proposed upgrade of the Westminster Street and Railway Terrace intersection at Schofields where traffic lights are planned to be installed to improve traffic flow and motorist safety.
“The NSW Government has allocated $3 million this financial year to continue planning for traffic improvement work at Riverstone as part of the North West Growth Centre Road Network Strategy’s short term work,” Mr Conolly said.
“Roads and Maritime Services has prepared a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the project to assess and reduce the impacts of the improvements to the Westminster Street and Railway Terrace intersection.
“Feedback is invited to the REF for an extended time to Monday 24 August.
“The work forms the first stage of the strategy which aims to increase traffic efficiency and reduce congestion in Sydney’s North West Growth Area, a region expected to expand by around 200,000 residents in the next 20–30 years.
“The proposal includes the installation of traffic lights at the intersection to improve access for vehicles turning from Bridge Street onto Railway Terrace during peak hours.
“Work will also be carried out to remove the right turn from Railway Terrace into Westminster Street to reduce congestion for vehicles travelling northbound on Railway Terrace.
“The existing five tonne weight limit will remain in place on Westminster Street bridge and motorists would still be able to turn right at Kensington Place and St Albans Road as alternative routes.
“All community feedback will be considered to further develop the changes,” Mr Conolly said.
Roads and Maritime will continue to work with key stakeholders on the short term work to improve traffic flow in Riverstone.
Roads and Maritime Services encourages community members to provide comments to the REF by Monday 24 August 2015 to Roads and Maritime Services PO Box 973 Parramatta NSW 2124, or email@example.com
