Maintenance work starts on Hammond Avenue in Wagga Wagga

Friday 12 February 2016

Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists changed traffic conditions will be in place as road maintenance work starts on Hammond Avenue, Sunday 14 February.

Member for Wagga Wagga Daryl Maguire said the NSW Government has allocated $2 million for the project to provide a smoother, more durable road surface and reduce future maintenance requirements.

“Roads and Maritime Services will carry out the work, which involves removing a deep layer of the road surface between Marshalls Creek and Kooringal Road roundabout and replacing it with asphalt,” Mr Maguire said.

“Work will start on Sunday 14 February and take about two and a half weeks to complete, weather permitting. Work will be arranged in consecutive day shifts between 7am and 6pm and then consecutive night shifts between 6pm and 6am.

“The night shifts are needed to reduce traffic to one lane while work is carried out, including placing the final surface on the whole length of the road.

“Changed traffic conditions including lane closures will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists. Work will also temporarily impact parking availability and access to certain properties. Every effort will be made to reduce the impact on residents as well as minimise noise associated with the work.”

Motorists should plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys and follow the direction of traffic control and signs.

Roads and Maritime thanks the community for their patience while this important road improvement work is carried out.
