Speed limit reduced on Illawarra Highway at Burrawang
25 November 2016
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward announced a speed limit reduction on Illawarra Highway at the Sheepwash Road intersection.
Motorists are reminded to slow down on the Illawarra Highway at Burrawang in early December with the speed limit to be reduced along a section to improve road user safety.
Ms Goward said after feedback from residents and the local Council about safety on this stretch of road, Roads and Maritime Services carried out a speed zone review earlier this year.
“As a result of the review, the speed limit will be reduced from 90 km/h to 80km/h for around one kilometre on the Illawarra Highway from 430 metres south to 540 metres north of the Sheepwash Road intersection,” Ms Goward said.
“In the five years to the end of March 2016, there were 10 recorded crashes on this section of road resulting in 23 injuries.
“The speed zone review determined a reduction in speed limit was appropriate to increase reaction time and reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes on this stretch of road.”
The new speed zone will come into effect from Thursday 8 December.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and drive to the new road conditions.
