New speed limits for improved road safety at Mulwala
18 April 2017
Motorists are advised there will be a number of speed zone changes at Mulwala to improve safety for all road users, with the installation of new signs later this month.
Mr Aplin said Roads and Maritime Services carried out a review of the speed limits as part of an ongoing speed review program and in response to requests from Federation Council and community members.
“The review assessed a number of factors, including pedestrian activity, road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data,” Mr Aplin said.
“A 2.35-kilometre section of Tocumwal Road from 400 metres west of Corowa Road will be reduced to 80 km/h.
“The 60 km/h speed limit on Melbourne Street from 168 metres north of Tocumwal Road to Lake Mulwala Bridge for a length of 4.8km will be reduced to 50 km/h.
“The speed limit on an 820-metre section of Savernake Road will be reduced to 80 km/h and reduced to 50 km/h from 130 metres north of North Road to Melbourne Street for a length of 847m.
Signs will inform motorists of the new speed limits and work will be carried out to install new speed signs from 26 April 2017, weather permitting. This work is not expected to impact motorists.
Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and to have a say on speed limits.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience and understanding while these changes are carried out.
