Plan ahead for road closure from this weekend on Heathcote Road at Heathcote
1 September 2017
Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions from this Sunday on Heathcote Road at Heathcote to carry out investigation work across the Woronora River.
Lee Evans Member for Heathcote said the work would be carried out as part of the NSW Government’s $300 million Gateway to the South Pinch Point Program which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s key southern corridors.
Mr Evans said a detailed inspection of the bridge across Woronora River will be carried out to help determine future maintenance requirements and develop a design proposal.
Mr Evans said Heathcote Road will be temporarily closed between New Illawarra Road and the Princes Highway for six nights between Sunday 3 and Sunday 10 September for the safety of workers and motorists while work is carried out.
“To minimise the impact to motorists, closures will be in place between 9.30pm and 5am, excluding Saturdays and weather permitting,” Mr Evans said. “Traffic will be heavier than usual and delays are expected so all motorists travelling through the area should plan ahead and allow extra travel time while work is carried out.
Motorists will be detoured via New Illawarra Road, Bangor Bypass and the Princes Highway and should allow up to 20 minutes of additional travel time during the closure.”
“The work will generate some noise and every effort will be made to minimise impact to the community,” Mr Evans said.
“Electronic message signs, temporary signage and traffic controllers will alert road users to the temporary changes on Heathcote Road.
Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out.
