New school zone and speed limit change at Mittagong
Friday, 8 September 2017
Safety for school students and motorists in Mittagong will be improved with a new school zone and speed limit change on the way.
Wollondilly MP Jai Rowell said Roads and Maritime Services will install a school zone outside Highlands School along the length of Radio Road and a small section of Bong Bong Road.
“A review of the speed zone outside Highlands School was requested by the school and it was determined the school met the criteria for a school zone,” Mr Rowell said.
“The school zone will create a safer road environment for students walking in the area and crossing the road to school.”
Mr Rowell said the speed limit on Bong Bong Road will also reduce from 80 to 50 km/h along a 1.3 kilometre section of road, from 120 metres west of the Renwick Drive to the intersection with Old South Road.
“It comes after a review was carried out at the request of Wingecarribee Shire Council due to residential development,” he said.
“The review assessed a number of factors including roadside development, traffic patterns, intersection locations and crash data.
“Both the school zone signs and the reduced speed limit will be installed on Monday 25 September, weather permitting.
“Once signs are installed, motorists should slow down for the safety of all road users and keep in mind speed zones are enforceable.”
