Extended clearways coming to Taren Point Road - have your say on parking changes
6 November 2017
Plans are under way to extend the existing weekday clearway hours and introduce new weekend clearways on Taren Point Road between Captain Cook Bridge at Taren Point and the Kingsway at Caringbah.
New clearways will be installed along Taren Point Road from 6am to 7pm in both directions on weekdays and 9am to 6pm on weekends and public holidays. Currently clearways apply from 6am to 10am northbound and 3pm to 7pm southbound on weekdays and do not apply on weekends and public holidays.
There will be no changes to existing parking restrictions outside the new clearway hours.
The NSW Government is funding this project as part of its $121 million Clearways Program, which aims to improve traffic flow and reduce delays on Sydney’s roads by allowing motorists to use all available lanes.
Since 2013, Roads and Maritime Services has installed more than 230km of new and extended clearways across some of Sydney’s busiest road corridors.
As part of this work, RMS investigated business parking along Taren Point Road and identified that most businesses on Taren Point Road have onsite parking for customers.
Roads and Maritime Services is speaking with Sutherland Shire Council about alternative business parking to offset the parking spaces that will be removed as part of changes to the clearway on Taren Point Road between Box Road and Kumulla Road.
RMS is also in discussions with Sutherland Shire Council regarding the possibility of increasing the number of parking spaces along Box Road next to Gwawley Park.
To finalise plans for these new arrangements, community members are encouraged to provide feedback by 20 November on the proposed alternative business parking arrangements, which could include installing new time restricted parking during clearway hours, with six ‘2P’ spaces on Box Road and nine ‘2P’ spaces on Kumulla Road.
Roads and Maritime will consider all feedback on the proposed alternative parking arrangements.
The Roads and Maritime Clearways project team will be available to discuss the changes to clearway hours and the alternative business parking proposal on Saturday 11 November at the Caringbah Home Centre from 10am to 2pm.
Feedback on the proposed business parking arrangements should be received by 20 November to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 1300 706 232.
