Cabbage Tree Road upgrade completed ahead of schedule in time for the Supercars 500

The $1.35 million Cabbage Tree Road rebuilding project at Williamtown has been completed three weeks ahead of schedule, ready for the upcoming Newcastle Supercars 500 event.
Duty MLC, the Hon Catherine Cusack said the NSW Government funded the upgrade to improve motorist safety on a 1.6 km section of Cabbage Tree Road between Barrie Close and Nelson Bay Road.
“Cabbage Tree Road is an important thoroughfare for commuters and visitors traveling between Port Stephens, Maitland, Newcastle, the airport and surrounding areas, which is why the work was carried out now,” Ms Cusack said.
“Thanks to favourable weather conditions, road closures and the dedication of those working on the project, Port Stephens Council was able to complete the project three weeks ahead of schedule.
“This is great news for the community and tourists who intend to travel to Newcastle for the upcoming Supercars 500 event as they will experience less disruption and improved travel times.
“Changed traffic conditions are no longer in place and detour arrangements are no longer required.
“Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while this important work was carried out.”
