$1.8 million for Seaham Road and Raymond Terrace Road intersection upgraded at Nelsons Plains
Thursday 26 April 2018
Motorists will soon benefit from a major upgrade of the Seaham Road and Raymond Terrace Road intersection at Nelsons Plains.
Port Stephens Duty MLC, Hon Catherine Cusack said the NSW Liberal National Government is providing $1.8 million under the Safer Roads Program to improve safety and traffic flow for motorists and reduce the risk of crashes at this intersection.
“In the six years to April 2018, there were 26 crashes at this intersection including 16 crashes which caused injuries. The majority of these crashes involved motorists turning right at the intersection,” Ms Cusack said.
“Port Stephens Council will carry out this important work on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services, which involves installing a roundabout.”
Work will start on Sunday 29 April and working hours will be between 6am and 6pm every day. It is expected that the work will be completed in eight weeks, weather permitting.
Some work will need to be carried out at night as the project progresses. Motorists will be advised in advance when this happens.
For motorist and worker safety, lane closures and a 40km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
“The NSW Liberal National Government is committed to improving regional roads,” Ms Cusack said.
Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
