Intersection improvements start on Kingsway at Caringbah
8 May 2018
Motorists will soon experience a better journey through the intersection of Kingsway and Gannons Road at Caringbah with improvement work about to start.
The main work at this intersection involves installing an additional right turn lane on Kingsway into Gannons Road.
The NSW Government is carrying out this work as part of the $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point and $100 million Congestion and Safety programs which aim to reduce congestion and improve travel time on Sydney’s busiest corridors.
More than 4000 vehicles travel through this intersection each day during the morning and afternoon peaks.
Roads and Maritime Services will be removing 13 car parking spaces on Kingsway, six restricted car parking spaces on Gannons Road and the existing Australia Post mail zone and post box on Kingsway. The decision not to relocate the post box was made in conjunction with Australia Post which found there was low usage of the post box. Nearby post boxes are at 151 Woolooware Road Woolooware and 107 Yathong Road Caringbah South.
Work will also be carried out to remove and replace asphalt, paint road markings and install new signage.
Roads and Maritime Services have advised that crews will be onsite across a 16 week period from 14 May to 30 August, excluding public holidays and weather permitting.
Work will be carried out up to five nights a week for 25 shifts between 8pm and 5am from Sunday to Friday.
Work may be noisy at times but all measures will be taken to minimise impact to residents, including completing the noisier tasks by midnight.
Temporary traffic changes will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists including lanes closures.
