Improved traffic flow with completion of North Wollongong interchange
29 August 2018
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward MP has announced the completion of a major upgrade of the North Wollongong Interchange which will help reduce delays for motorists and improve safety at the busy intersection.
Mr Ward said that he NSW Government funded the $6.73 million project to widen the existing three-lane exit ramp to provide an extra lane for northbound motorists turning right onto the Princes Highway from Memorial Drive.
“Motorists travelling through the area and to the nearby education precinct are also now benefitting from dual right and left turns from Memorial Drive onto the highway,” he said.
“Along with improving traffic efficiency and reducing congestion, safety has already been improved for all road users moving through the interchange.
“Motorists should notice an improvement in their travel times, particularly commuters accessing Wollongong and the many parents, teachers and students who attend the nearby education precinct.
“All traffic lanes are now reopened and speed limits have been reinstated.
“Pedestrian access on the southern side of the Princes Highway through the intersection has also been restored following the completion of work.
“I also thank the local community for its patience during this important upgrade work which started in November last year,” Mr Ward concluded.
