Improvements on the way for busy Eastwood instersection

14 January 2019

Work will soon start to improve the intersection of Blaxland Road and First Avenue at Eastwood.

The Hon. Victor Dominello MP, Member for Ryde said the work is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s program to reduce congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s busiest road corridors.

“The NSW Government is committed to improving safety and easing congestion on all roads and this project is just another piece of the puzzle which will benefit motorists and the community for years to come,” Mr Dominello said.

“Motorists will soon see work being carried out to upgrade the intersection to improve safety and efficiency for road users.

“The intersection of Blaxland Road and First Avenue is one of the busiest in north west Sydney, with more than 3,500 vehicles using the intersection in the morning and afternoon peaks.”

Mr Dominello said the work will improve traffic flow for the thousands of motorists who travel through the intersection each day.

“Work will be carried out to create dual right turn lanes on Blaxland Road for motorists turning onto First Avenue and extending the left turn lane on First Avenue by 100 metres to create more capacity for motorists,” Mr Dominello said.

“Medians at the intersection will also be modified to accommodate the intersection improvements.”

Mr Dominello said work will be carried out from 21 January and is expected to be completed by the end of November.

“Improving the intersection at Blaxland Road and First Avenue will help take the squeeze out of one of the biggest pinch points in Sydney’s north west,” Mr Dominello said.

“Roads and Maritime Services will keep the community informed as work progresses on this project.”

Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays as well as between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.

Night work will also be carried out from 6pm to 7am on weekdays and from 1pm to 8am on Saturdays.

Motorists are advised to drive to the changed conditions and follow the direction of traffic control and signs.

Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out.
