Comments invited for intersection upgrades on City Road (Pacific Highway)
4 February 2019
Roads and Maritime Services would like to invite the community to comment on the Review of Environmental Factors and proposed design of intersection upgrades on City Road (Pacific Highway) in Adamstown Heights and Highfields.
Mr Farlow said the intersections with City Road at Kahibah Road and Northcott Drive have been identified as Hunter Pinch Points where motorists experience traffic queues and delays.
The NSW Government has committed $12 million to upgrade the two intersections, to provide easier, safer and faster journeys for all road users.
“These upgrades will improve road user safety, traffic flow, pedestrian access and support economic growth by increasing road capacity,” Mr Farlow said.
The proposal involves extending the right turn lanes on City Road (Pacific Highway) to improve safety for motorists turning into Kahibah Road and Northcott Drive.
“The improvements also include a new left turn lane from City Road into Kahibah Road, which will improve traffic flow for motorists travelling through the intersections up to Charlestown or in to Newcastle City.
“The improvements will provide safer pedestrian facilities at both intersections including a new crossing across Northcott Drive,” Mr Farlow said.
Submissions close at 5pm on 1 March 2019.
