Rebuilt Stockton Boat Harbour now open
8 February 2019
The boating community can now enjoy safer berthing and efficient access to Newcastle’s waterways, with the completion of Stockton Boat Harbour this week, Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Hon. Scot MacDonald MLC and Liberal candidate for Newcastle Blake Keating announced today.
Mr MacDonald and Mr Keating joined boat owners and representatives from Daracon and Ballingen Marine for the official opening of the NSW Liberal National Government delivered $4.43 million project which will improve safety and access for the recreational and commercial boating community, including 26 new berths.
“Safety was always the highest priority for Roads and Maritime Services, and the new Harbour will now mean fishers and recreational boaters can safely access their vessels and enter Newcastle’s waterways,” Mr MacDonald said.
“The rebuild of Stockton Boat Harbour was based on community feedback about the old facility and it was clear that a rebuild was necessary for the safety of everyone who uses it.”
“There were 18 active berths at the time of the closure of the old harbor, many were deemed dangerous. The new harbor includes 26 high-quality berths providing safer access to and from the harbour.”
Mr Keating said the rebuilding of Stockton Boat Harbour is a win for commercial and recreational boaters, and the entire community.”
“The Stockton Boat Harbour is a small but vital part of the local fishing and boating economy.”
“I’d like to thank all the commercial and recreational boaters and the local community for their patience while the work was undertaken.
“Thank you also to the local council, community members and other Government departments who provided input into this project.”
