Community invited to information session as slope stabilisation work at Cambewarra Mountain nears completion
30 October 2019
Transport for NSW will brief the community next month ahead of completing slope stabilisation work on Moss Vale Road at Cambewarra Mountain in December.
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said the NSW Government has committed $1.4 million to improve safety and access for motorists travelling through Nowra and the Southern Highlands.
“Essential slope stabilisation work carried out in August and September also requires the removal of a number of large trees, which must be done in day shifts for worker safety,” Mr Ward said.
“Once tree removal has been completed the final stages of slope stabilisation work can get underway, including tightening rock fall mesh and rock bolts.
“This work is essential to reduce the severity of rock falls onto Moss Vale Road.”
The community session will be held between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday 6 November at Kangaroo Valley Community Hall, 179 Moss Vale Road, where locals will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the work and provide feedback to help plan future projects.
Essential tree removal work will be carried out from 9am to 3pm between Monday 2 to Thursday 5 December and Monday 9 to Wednesday 11 December, weather permitting.
Moss Vale Road will be closed in both directions and detours will be in place for light vehicles via Tourist Road and Kangaroo Valley Road, adding 15 minutes to travel times.
Essential maintenance work will also be carried out on Moss Vale Road from Barfield Road to Kangaroo Valley Road on Cambewarra Mountain.
The road will be closed for one night on Sunday 15 December between 8pm and 4am, weather permitting.
Detours will be in place for light vehicles via the Princes Highway and Kangaroo Valley Road, adding 20 minutes to travel times.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and to follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks the community for their patience while we carry out this essential work and apologises for any inconvenience.
